About Your Instructor
Having begun piano lessons at age 7, Paula Johnson continued her studies and graduated with a music education degree from Carson Newman College in 1991. While there she studied piano, organ, guitar, and voice. In addition to teaching private piano lessons, Ms. Johnson has also taught general music classes in public schools in grades K-8.
After receiving many parent requests for music lessons for very young children, Ms. Johnson pursued becoming a Kindermusik teacher. The internationally taught Kindermusik program is known worldwide as the premier music program for young children ages birth to 7 years. Ms. Johnson completed Kindermusik training in 1996. She is licensed to teach all six Kindermusik curricula.
Ms. Johnson is a nationally certified music teacher by the Music Teachers National Association, an active member of the Tennessee State Music Teachers Association, and is Past President of the Smoky Mountain Music Teachers Association. She has also been a member of the Kindermusik Educators Association, the National Piano Foundation and the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She regularly attends continuing education classes, workshops, seminars, and conventions.
Ms. Johnson has served as pianist and minister of music in several churches of various denominations. She has also performed as accompanist and musical director of several music and drama productions.
From 1997 to the present, Ms. Johnson has been the owner and operator of the retail music store and teaching facility, My Best Friends Music.
